when a country faces massive influx of people,
it doesn’t become more welcoming -instead, develops stricter controls and becomes more
selective.
the mind is similar, when faced with an ever increasing flood of information, it becomes more discriminating.
consider news:
with countless sources & perspectives, one might expect people to form nuanced & well rounded views.
we know the opposite happens.
we retreat into our echo chambers and seek information that confirms our existing beliefs.
despite having instant access to vast libraries of material, our reading patterns have become superficial.
the very tools designed to expand the mind, constrain it.
your minds have become a warehouse of information without a way to validate what’s stored inside.
the solution here is to develop good osmotic regulation.
let the good stuff pass in and keep everything else at bay.
one practical experiment that comes to mind is to mostly avoid the free stuff.
pay for the information you consume.
while your wallet may get thinner, your mind will be richer.
